News Regulation Labelling

According to the Regulation respecting the language of commerce and business published on June 26, 2024, new obligations came into effect on June 1, 2025. These obligations concern, in particular, clarifications regarding trademarks appearing on products ; Generic or descriptive elements of the trademark must also appear in French on the product or on a permanently attached medium. The name under which the product is marketed and the name of the company may remain in another language only.

To facilitate interpretation and application, following a series of meetings with the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF), the QPMA and the CPMA have developed a list of Fequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

This FAQ explains the regulatory updates under Law 14 (formerly known as Quebec Bill 96) and provides examples and practical advice to help members of the fruit and vegetable industry adapt to the new requirements.

This English version was developed jointly by the CPMA and the QPMA to clearly communicate these obligations to industry stakeholders.. However, this document remains a work in progress, as the CPMA and the QPMA continue to represent the interests of the fruit and vegetable sector in order to address current labeling concerns and potential compliance challenges.
